With the recent presidential election, it can be easy to lose confidence in the direction of our country and the leadership of those in power. Find peace in the realization that many leaders in Washington still seek His divine guidance in their work with God is in the House: Congressional Testimonies of Faith.

Compiled by Representative Virginia Foxx (R), of North Carolina, this book includes contributions from seventeen fellow Christian members of Congress (including Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and popular congressman Allen West), representing ten Christian denominations from both political parties, detailing their journeys of faith, why they believe God will continue to bless America and how their faith guides them as legislators.

Foreword by Paul Ryan, Speaker of the House and contributions from:
·         Congresswoman Janice Hahn (D-California)
·         Former Congresswoman Sue Myrick (R-North Carolina)
·         Congressman J. Randy Forbes (R-Virginia)
·         Congressman Sam Johnson (R-Texas)
·         Former Congressman Allen West (R-Florida)
·         Former Congressman Mark Critz (D-Pennsylvania)
·         Former Congressman Steve Southerland II (R-Florida)
·         Congressman Stephen Fincher (R-Tennessee)
·         Former Congressman Frank Wolf (R-Virginia)
·         Congressman Juan Vargas (D-California)
·         Congressman Tom Graves (R-Georgia)
·         Congressman Dan Lipinski (D-Illinois)
·         Former Congressman Thomas Osborne (R-Nebraska)
·         Congressman Randy Hultgren (R-Illinois)
·         Congressman Jim Langevin (D-Rhode Island)
·         Former House Chaplain Daniel P. Coughlin (59th Chaplain of the U.S. House of Representatives)
·         Congresswoman Virginia Foxx (R-North Carolina)
·         Congressman Chris Stewart (R-Utah)

I love that this book exists and it was the perfect read for me! I don't currently follow politics as closely as I used to because it started getting too discouraging. I enjoyed this book because it is comforting to know that there are members of Congress on both sides of the aisle who believe in God and aren't afraid to talk about it. Some of the stories show how their faith has guided them to become involved in politics and others share how their lives have been influenced through their belief in God.

I was only familiar with a handful of these representatives and enjoyed learning more about each of them. One of my favorites was Virginia Foxx's story. She wasn't looking to become politically active, but when the prompting came, she took heed and was able to win, sometimes against the odds. I also liked the experiences she shared from earlier in her life which prepared her to run when it was the right time.

It's also comforting to know that there are weekly prayer breakfasts and regular Bible study groups so they are strengthened by each other as they share in their connection to God. It's got to be a tough atmosphere to work in at times and I am grateful that there are good people there who are willing to do it. This is a great read for anyone who wants to learn more about our elected officials and feel reassurance that God is, indeed, in the House!
